Windows 7 Network Missing

by Tony on November 7th, 2009

I spent a few hours yesterday trying to get my Windows 7 system to see the network again.  It was working fine for a while, and then just dropped out.  It can see the line is connected, but no traffic flows in or out.  It works great when I boot into Ubuntu, so I started changing drivers.  I ended up grabbing a beta version of the Realtek driver from the Asus site and so far it works.  I’ll see how long that lasts.  There are lots of posts around about Realtek and Windows 7 not working together well.
I wouldn’t really care if the networking doesn’t work in Windows 7 as I rarely use that boot choice.  But I just started using Steam, and you can’t play Steam games (at least the good ones) without a internet connection.
